The unintended expat writer behind KelVanorItsyl

Hey, I'm Alex
I work as a project manager, am a parent, and currently living abroad in Rome, Italy.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter in my life abroad.
How It Started
Relocating to Italy wasn’t part of the long-range plan. Like many moves for expats, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something much larger.
The first months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks seemed more complex than anticipated.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that suited us, met other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built KelVanorItsyl
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation advice or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, day-to-day family perspective.
This site exists to close that gap — practical guidance grounded in real life in Italy.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical, hands-on experience from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- A typical travel blog
Moving Forward
Our stay in Italy continues, and so does the learning process. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Rome or anywhere in Italy, please feel free to get in touch.
Best regards,
Chiara
